Alison C. Solomon (www.alisonsolomon.com) is a Brooklyn based playwright, screenwriter and director. She began writing plays and staging performance pieces as a drama student at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and moved on to earn an MFA in playwriting at Brooklyn College where she studied with Jack Gelber and Mac Wellman. Her plays have been presented by several New York performance venues (including Ensemble Studio Theater, St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery, Amos Enos Gallery, Theatrix, The Knitting Factory, New Perspectives, Women’s Rites Center, Nuyorician Poet’s Café, The Kraine, Redroom Theatre, The American Living Room Festival (Here/Lincoln Center Theatre), the Present Company’s Downtown Variety Lounge, Extreme Exchange, Guild Hall (East Hampton), BRIC Studios and the Soho Think Tank’s Sixth Floor Series). The rights to her play, Reflecting Magdalen were acquired for film adaptation where she worked as co-screenwriter on the project. Her feature length screenplay, kulcha krazy (commissioned by Shashi Balooja/ABC Film and Video, LLC) is currently in development for production in 2007. In addition, Alison has been hired to work on early development for the screenplay Wishing on Jupiter (Liza D. Productions). Alison was the Literary Manager for Screaming Venus. She has worked with David Esbijornson and Lenora Champagne in the literary department of Classic Stage Company, as well as serving as curator of The Women’s Work Project for New Perspectives Theater Company. Currently, Alison is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, the team of ABC Film and Video, LLC and teaches in the Brooklyn College MFA playwriting program (headed by Mac Wellman) and the undergraduate English Departments at both Brooklyn College and John Jay College. |
