Debra Wiley is a singing voice specialist and a distinguished acting teacher. ABC Film & Video’s resident Voice teacher and Head of the Acting program, she specializes in the integration of singing and acting techniques. Ms. Wiley incorporates voice, acting, and bodywork systems that empower the performer to reach their full potential. She teaches private classes in voice, acting, interpretation, and performance preparation as well as group classes in advanced acting and musical theatre. Her students have performed on Broadway and in regional touring companies throughout the U.S., won international awards, signed with major record labels, and sung in opera houses and theaters worldwide. She has been included three times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and is an active member of the National Association of Singing Teachers (NATS) and the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA). A teacher with vast experience, Ms. Wiley has been on the faculties of The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute (10 years), Marymount Manhattan College, Montclair State University, NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, the Juilliard School’s Summer Dalcroze Institute, and recently, a master class in Musical Performance through the New Triad group, again at Juilliard. She has taught master classes and directed productions in New York City for more than 20 years at institutions that include the Mannes College of Music, New York University, Harlem School of the Arts, Henry Street Settlement and Disney Theatrical Productions’ The Lion King. She receives frequent referrals from otolaryngologists and speech pathologists and works in tandem with them to assist performers in vocal recovery. Ms. Wiley has an M.A. from New York University in Acting and Vocal Performance, and works with professionals and selected talented beginners. |
